Haven of Rest?

Who wins during the battle of the “Haven of Rest” versus the “Jungle of Stress”? Our family likes to enjoy a relaxed environment in our two-bedroom castle. We rest our feet where we like (within reason). We eat dinner around the coffee table or around the computer. We keep our home schedule loose because the rest of life can be so stringent and hectic.

Last week an invader took over our little kingdom. His name was CHAOS! He had the bright idea to rearrange the furnishings in every room. Not convenient right now! Last weekend we slept in the living room because our mattresses stood on end by our bedroom door. The computer sat around the room in components. My writing schedule disintegrated. Worst of all, I couldn’t find my comb, which personally insulted me. Our new landlady negotiated our front room obstacle course to check our oven, which was embarrassing.

Eventually we finished moving our furniture throughout the house. I manage to reduce the madness before the repairman came to fix the oven. We have smaller piles of things to screen, pack, toss, file, or store. The collections bound for the Salvation Army and the storage closet are growing bigger and neater. I continue my quest to find homes for our remaining possessions.

By the time we are done, our home will have a totally new look. Slowly, but surely our crazy jungle will again become the cozy castle we adore. By then it will be time to pack up and move.
